This garden has no accounts, no ads, and no tracking across sites. This page says what it stores in your browser, who else sees you when you read it, and what happens to your email if you join the mailing list.

What stays in your browser

  • Your age answer. When you click “I am 18 or older”, the site remembers it in your browser’s local storage, plus a cookie (age-ok) that lasts one year. It exists only so you aren’t asked again. If your browser blocks both, the question just comes back on your next visit.
  • Your display choices. Light or dark mode (theme), and which folders you have open in the file explorer (fileTree), are kept in local storage.
  • Short-lived state. Your last search and the explorer’s scroll position are kept for the current tab only (session storage) and disappear when you close it.
  • Unlocked pages. This tab remembers the passwords you typed to open locked pages, and the titles of the pages you opened, until you close it. They are never sent anywhere.

None of this is sent anywhere. It lives in your browser, and you can clear it from your browser’s settings at any time.

Who sees you when you read

The garden is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, it sees your IP address and the page you asked for when it serves a page. The garden’s fonts and styles come from the garden itself, so no other site sees you when a page loads, with one exception: Plausible’s counting script, described below.

Analytics

The garden uses Plausible to count visits, so the author can see which notes get read. Plausible’s data policy says it does not use cookies or local storage, does not track people across sites or devices, and never stores raw IP addresses. It does keep a record of each visit: the page, where you came from, your browser, operating system and device type, your approximate country, region and city, how long you stayed engaged, and a visitor identifier that is a salted hash of your IP address and browser. The salt is thrown away every 24 hours, so the identifier cannot be linked from one day to the next.

The mailing list

The footer of every page has a form to join a mailing list. If you use it, the garden’s server passes your email address to MailerLite, which holds the list and sends the emails (its policy says it stores subscriber data in the European Union). Your browser never contacts MailerLite itself, and the garden stores nothing from the form. The address is used for the mailing list only. MailerLite emails you to confirm before you are added, and every email has an unsubscribe link. To be removed, use that link or write to me and I will remove you.

The emails come from the garden’s author under the Princess Hedonism name, through MailerLite. They are infrequent, each is about one note with a link to the full text, and each carries an unsubscribe link and a postal address that is not a home address. I write and send each one myself, and no newsletter is ever sent automatically; the only automatic email is the confirmation MailerLite sends when you sign up.

I keep a copy of the mailing list on my own computer and in a private backup: each address, whether it has confirmed, unsubscribed or bounced, and the date they joined. This list is never published, and it is refreshed from MailerLite every week. An address that unsubscribes stays on that copy marked as unsubscribed, so it is never emailed again by mistake. If you want an address removed entirely, write to me and I will delete it from MailerLite and from my copy.

Contacting me

This site has no contact form. If you email me, the message goes to my email inbox and nowhere else on this site. A message on FetLife goes through FetLife, under its own rules.
