I adapted this note from a comment I made on Reddit’s r/malehousewives.

You want to be a homemaker? I’m not one myself, but I’m married to one, and I’ve also been a homemaker myself in past situations.

A handful of resource recommendations:

  • Rachel Hoffman’s Unfuck Your Habitat. This addresses a lot of mindset elements of homemaking that commonly come up when someone wasn’t raised with the expectation of cleaning. This book is helpful for people with limited time and or ability, so useful for part-time homemakers.
  • Charlie Wing’s. How Your House Works. This is a great overview of different aspects of the home that might need repair. Discusses what you can repair yourself and what you should hire out.
  • Cheryl Mendelson’s Home Comforts. This is the ultimate homemaking textbook! Use it as a reference manual when you want to level up a specific skill. I would discourage you from reading it cover-to-cover, but you do you.

You’re also going to want to find and adapt a housework system. Nothing you read online is going to work directly out of the box. Clean Mama and FlyLady are two that I recommend you look into.

Focus on getting organized! Systems will be your friend.

I hope this helps, and good luck!
